Tiger Milk Mushroom, also known as "cendawan susu rimau" or "kulat susu rimau," has a long history of use, dating back to 400 years ago. Initially, it was collected from Jesuits of Japan and China and received by the Order at Paris. TMM cultivation became successful in 2009, making it commercially available and driving scientific research on its medicinal properties.

TMM has demonstrated several health benefits, such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory effects. Recent studies have also shown its oral activity and safety for consumption.

  3. Reduced Inflammation: TMM was found to significantly reduce the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin 1β (IL-1β) and interleukin 8 (IL-8), in the respiratory system. This reduction in inflammation contributes to improved respiratory health.

  4. Enhanced Antioxidant Capacity: TMM supplementation led to a substantial increase in the total antioxidant capacity of participants by nearly 70%. This is important in protecting the respiratory system from oxidative stress, a contributing factor to respiratory diseases.

  5. Gender and BMI Influence: The study also observed that male participants and those with a normal BMI responded more significantly to TMM supplementation in terms of antioxidant status improvement.


It's important to note that gender and BMI seemed to influence the outcomes of antioxidant status, with males and those with normal BMI responding more positively to TMM supplementation.


This study provides compelling evidence that Tiger Milk Mushroom supplementation can have a positive impact on respiratory health, immunity, and antioxidant status. While this research is promising, more extensive randomized controlled trials with a placebo group are needed to further validate these findings. Nonetheless, TMM holds great potential as an adjuvant therapy for managing respiratory conditions.
